carborundum print on paper, 80 × 100 cm, 2024
Three impressions · Plastic
The works, newest first. Thirty years of looking: the wad behind the dike at Hornhuizen, grain and reed, still lifes of quince and medlar, a few boats at night. Each plate is a work. Each impression is a unique pull — ink mixed again, a particular pressure, a moment on the press that will not repeat.
Printmaking here is not an edition. Drypoint closes under the press; the lines have to be opened after every pull. Colour is mixed by hand from stand oil and pigment, so a line can read almost black while a plane still holds colour. Beside the plates sit the photographs — cyanotype, kallitype, gum, silver — treated as made objects, not files. The techniques open their own rooms. The catalogue stays one chronology.
