I live and work in Hornhuizen, behind the dike, on the Wadden coast of Groningen. I am a printmaker and a photographer. I teach, and I research through making.

Seeing, looking, making. I make mainly large landscapes of this land and the wad behind the dike, as I see and experience it. The true-to-life rendering is secondary to the image. The more often I go there, the more I see. Plates are the same: each one calls up another. Some images arrive at once. Others take a year of working through before they reach their state. Redefining what I actually see is one of the great challenges in the work.

I have had my own practice since 1995. I studied fine art at Academie Minerva, and later art education, and I still teach printmaking — at Vrijdag, at Minerva, wherever the workshop is. I mix my own ink. I stand on the plate. The edition side of printmaking has never interested me.
